Rodney passed away early Friday morning at the Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 22 days.

Rodney Neil McCurdy, son of Eugene Royd and Lucille Nell Synhorst McCurdy, was born Sept. 3, 1940 in Oskaloosa. He was a 1958 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. After his education, Rod worked with his father on the family farm west of What Cheer. He continued farming on the family farm throughout his lifetime and also started McCurdy Construction. After retiring from farming, he continued with his construction company. He was a past member of the St. James Episcopal Church, Elmhurst Country Club and Kaaba Shriners. He was member of the Elks, Oskaloosa Golf and a social member of the American Legion. Rodney was an avid golfer; he also enjoyed hunting and winter trips to Hobe Sound, Fla.

His family includes a son Barry McCurdy of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother Joseph (Charlotte) McCurdy of Oskaloosa; and a sister Elinor Arendt of Columbia, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by a son Brian James McCurdy who died May 10, 1987.
