Alvin passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Alvin Bryce Shroyer, son of Wilbur Earl and Della Mae Shoemake Shroyer, was born July 3, 1915 in Taintor, Iowa. He attended school in the New Sharon area. He married Eloise Manges July 13, 1935 in Knoxville. Alvin farmed for a time near Chillicothe. He later owned and operated a tire business called O.K. Rubber Welders in Centerville and Albia doing recapping, vulcanizing and selling new and used tires, for many years. After selling the business, he moved to Beacon; he worked for Oskaloosa Engineering and Mfg. Co., until he retired in 1979.
Alvin was a member of the First Assembly of God in Oskaloosa. Alvin was a very committed Christian and enjoyed reading his Bible. He shared his faith by ministering to shut-ins and nursing home residents in Oskaloosa for 20 years. |
His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Jeri R. and James E. Lowe of Fort Collins, CO; two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Donna Shroyer of Davenport, IA and Al and Jane Shroyer of Ottumwa, IA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise on August 13, 2008; a grandson, Larry B. Shroyer; a sister, Arthena Shroyer, and four brothers: Donald, William, Homer and Melvin Shroyer. |
