Visitation: Will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, October 07, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday morning, October 08, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jeff Anderson officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa

Dorothy passed away Saturday morning at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 12 days.

Dorothy Viola McCombs was born May 22, 1920 in Lovilia, Iowa to William Riley and Viola Mae Robbins Brown. She attended school in Lovilia. Dorothy was united in marriage to Glenn McCombs in 1940. They later divorced. Glenn passed away December 1, 1967. The first year of their marriage they lived in Ottumwa. They moved to Newton in 1942, where they lived until 1950. They then moved to Des Moines. In 1955, Dorothy moved to Oskaloosa to be near her family. She worked for Dean’s Cigar Store as a waitress for eleven years and later for Pleasant Park Estates as a cook for fourteen years. She retired in 1989. Dorothy was a member of the Life House Community Church and enjoyed dancing, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.

Her family includes three sons and their wives: Jerry & Jona Muceus of Manzanita, Oregon; William and Marcia McCombs of Oskaloosa; Richard and Jeannie McCombs of Oskaloosa; two daughters and their husbands: Darlene & Kenneth De Haan of Pella and Diana & Jake Azlin of Albia; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers: Alvia (Irene) Brown of Fremont and Danny (Elaine) Brown of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Norma (Tony) Whitlatch of Oskaloosa and Barbara (Vernon) McClun of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons: Jerry and Donald McCombs; four brothers: Donald, Bill, Larry and infant Gerald Brown; one grandson, David Russell; and one great granddaughter, Loraina L. Tromp.

Memorials may be made to Life House Community Church.
