Visitation: Will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, August 19, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday morning, August 20, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral with Rev. Jason Gutzmer of the Beacon Central United Methodist Church and Reverend Gary McDonough of the Marcus United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa

Lloyd passed away early Sunday morning at his home in Oskaloosa at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 30 days.

Lloyd H. Edwards, son of Thomas H. and Anna Theresa Hjort Edwards, was born March 17, 1912, in Hiteman (Monroe County), Iowa. As a youngster he attended school in Beacon and worked on a dairy farm in the summers. After graduation from Oskaloosa High School, Lloyd furthered his education at William Penn College for one year. In the early 1930’s through the early 40’s, he worked with his father and Uncle Matt in the coal mines and also worked for a short time for the Meadow Gold Company. He married Mary Marie Lokers, August 28, 1936, at the First Christian Church parsonage in Oskaloosa. In the early 40’s he started farming with Mary’s father, Jacob Lokers, and continued farming until his retirement in the late 1980s. Mary passed away December 17, 1995, after 59 years of marriage. Lloyd was blessed to find love for a second time; he married Estella Vermillion, September 17, 1998, in Sedona, AZ. She passed away August 27, 2003, after almost 5 years of marriage. Lloyd was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Elks Lodge No. 340 and enjoyed spending time at the American Legion; he attended the Beacon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, sports, reading Louis L'Amour novels and watching westerns on T.V.

Lloyd’s family includes his brother, Tom Edwards of Sun Lakes, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and both of his wives, he was preceded in by four sisters: Theresa Mullen, Alta and Ada Edwards, and Doris Phillips; and his brother, Karl Edwards.

Memorials may be made to Beacon United Methodist Church or Mahaska Hospice.
