Francis died Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2009 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 8 days. |
Francis Clark Hasselman, son of August “Gus” and Alice W. Van Woerkom Hasselman, was born May 16, 1922 in the vicinity of Killduff, Iowa. He attended school in Sully, Iowa and as a boy enjoyed his horses and his pony. His first employment was with Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg, IA. He was united in marriage May 4, 1941 with Darlene Menninga of Pella in Lancaster, MO. They began their life together on a farm near Lynnville where they lived for several years. Later, they were able to purchase a farm near New Sharon. Francis farmed until 1993, when they moved to Oskaloosa. Francis and Darlene enjoyed traveling, particularly to Branson, MO. They were also helpful and faithful in the care of his sisters in their later years. Francis was baptized May 4, 2009 by the Rev. Mark Doland of the Park Church of Christ, Oskaloosa.

Francis’ family includes his wife, Darlene of 68 years; two nieces and their husbands: Ilda Lou Mol (LeRoy) Van Zee and Shirley Klyn (Larry) Cogley, both of Pella; a nephew and his wife: Keith and Evelyn Klyn of Peru, IL; a sister-in-law, Vera Menninga and many special friends and neighbors.

Besides his parents, Francis was preceded in death by sisters; Agnes Mol, Artie Alberta McComber, Ruby Klyn, and two sisters and a brother in infancy. |
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Church of Christ or Hospice of Pella Comfort House. |
