Elda passed away early Wednesday morning at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center at the age of 96 years, 9 months and 18 days. |
Elda Leora Ferryman, daughter of Edward “Barney” James and Elizabeth Crissie Wymore Mason, was born July 19, 1912 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was a 1930 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and following her education she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. She married Jean Francis Ferryman June 29, 1957 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They made their home in Santa Anna, California, where Elda again worked as a telephone switchboard operator. She and Jean moved to Seattle and Denver, before settling in Phoenix in 1997. Elda’s hobbies included sewing and painting; she also enjoyed collecting bird houses. She was a former member of the Telephone Pioneers and the First Christian Church.

Elda’s family includes her husband of over 50 years, Jean Ferryman and her best friend of 68 years, Becky Keefe, both of Phoenix and many other friends. |
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Claude and Roy Mason. |
