Ruth passed away Monday morning at the Heartland Health Care Center in Moline, Illinois at the age of 91 years, 7 months of age. |
Ruth Mary Dillard, daughter of Charles and Mary Kentfield Dillard, was born August 23, 1917 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was a 1935 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Ruth was a telephone operator for several years before her marriage to Lyle “Mike” Bassett in May 1939. They lived in several cities due to Mike’s career; they included Chicago, Illinois, Houston, Texas, Washington State, St. Joseph, Missouri and eventually Sacramento, California, where they settled. Ruth was employed as a stenographer and she also did volunteer work for several different charitable organizations. Mike passed away in Sacramento in 1987.
Ruth married Cornie Bolsem in 1989. They lived in Oelwein, Iowa and wintered in Sacramento. In 1991, they moved to Oskaloosa and continued to spend winters in Sacramento. They moved to Eldridge, Iowa in September, 2007.
Ruth was a member and an active volunteer of the First Christian Church in Sacramento. She enjoyed tending her flower garden, shopping for antiques, square dancing, and collecting colored glass vases and other glassware.

Her family includes her husband, Cornie Bolsem of Eldridge, IA; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Bassett of Sweet Home Oregon; a granddaughter, Robin; one great granddaughter, Sabrina and several nieces. |
Besides her parents and her first husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Dillard; a brother, Howard Bassett and two sisters: Helen Tregeloff and Mabel Whitehead.
