Cherie passed away early Friday morning at the Mahaska Hospital in Oksaloosa at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 14 days. As was her wish, her body has been cremated and a celebration of her life will be held next summer at Lake Keomah State Park.

Cherie Lynn Spruell, daughter of Ron and Bonnie Hodgson, was born September 29, 1957 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania. Cherie was a 1976 graduate of Royal High School in Simi Valley, California. She was united in marriage to Tony Lee Spruell January 16, 1978 in Princeton, Indiana. They made their home in Simi Valley, California until 1991 when they moved to Oskaloosa to be near family. Cherie served as a nurse’s aid for several nursing homes in Oskaloosa. For the past several years she has worked in merchandizing at the Oskaloosa Wal-Mart Store. Cherie enjoyed bowling and caring for her grandchildren.

Cherie’s family includes her sons: Shaun Spruell of Oskaloosa and Justin Spruell and his fiancé, Nicole Jones, also of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Hayden Jones and Hayley Spruell; her mother, Bonnie of Simi Valley, CA; sisters: Rhona (Kevin) Wooten of NC; Raylene Flemming of Oskaloosa; and brothers: Bill Fleming of Arizona and Scott Fleming of California.

Besides her father, Cherie was preceded in death by her husband, Tony on February 11, 2005.
