Lawrence passed away Friday evening at Mahaska Health Partnership at the age of 92 years and 11 days.

Lawrence William Dunsmoor was born on January 19, 1917 in rural Beacon, the son of George and Hattie (Howar) Dunsmoor. He attended rural schools until the age of 11 when he then assisted his parents. Lawrence honorably served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. Following his discharge from the service, he worked in construction as a welder for many years, last working for Economy Forms in Des Moines. Lawrence was a former member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a musician for many years playing the guitar, fiddle, and banjo in a number of local establishments, playing his favorite country music. |
He is survived by his children: Margaret Frasier of Sun City, California, Linda Derringer of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Terry Wayne Dunsmoor of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. |
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Robert, Eslia, John, Charles, and Harlan, and his six sisters: Bertha Nash, Annis Hall, Irene Rogers, Eva McCain, Francine Mattix, and Lottie Dow. |
