Interment: As was her wish, Helen's body has been cremated. Her ashes will be interred at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date.

Helen passed away early Tuesday morning at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 1 day.

Helen Lewessa Hendricks was born October 12, 1920 in Moulton, Iowa to Van Albert and Mabel Edith Kirk Merriman. She was a 1938 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Following her education, Helen was employed by Spurgeons where she worked in yard goods and later as an assistant manager at Kresge’s. She moved to Des Moines in 1945 and worked for McKane-Lin Luggage Shop. July 17, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Albert H. Hendricks at Des Moines. Throughout their marriage Helen was a homemaker. Albert died in 1979 and Helen moved back to Oskaloosa in 1985. At that time she began her 21 year career as the manager of Norwich Apartments. Helen attended the Nazarene Church and was a past member of the King’s Daughters Centennial Circle.

Helen’s family includes her stepson and his wife, Don and Natalie Hendricks of Deer Lodge, MT and a stepdaughter and her husband, Karen and Dan Urman of Florence, OR; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; two sisters: Doris E. Allsup of Oskaloosa and Alice Chamberlain of Fairfield Bay, AR; and a niece, Joan Marie Allsup Szopinski of Green Bay, WI.

Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Albert, and a sister Dorothy Marie Merriman.
