Kryn passed away Tuesday at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 98 years, 2 months and 30 days of age. |
Kryn Buyert, son of Gerrit and Cornelia Van Dusseldorp Buyert, was born October 7, 1910 in Pella, Iowa. He attended school in Pella and worked there as a young man. September 27, 1940, Kryn and Thelma “Tillie” Leona Tandy were united in marriage in Davenport, Iowa. They returned to Oskaloosa where they made their home and Kryn was employed at the Morrell Meat Packing Plant in Ottumwa. He retired in 1973, after which he and Tillie were able to spend winters in Florida. As a youth, he loved to play baseball as a young man and enjoyed all sports as a spectator throughout his life. Kryn also enjoyed gardening, yard work and traveling. He attended the First Christian Church, and was a member of the Elks and Eagles Lodges. |
Kryn’s family includes his sisters-in-law: Jean Barnhill of Oskaloosa, Lenora Tandy of Knoxville and Dorothy Tandy of Colorado Springs, CO and several nieces and nephews. |
Besides his parents, Kryn was preceded in death by his wife Tillie on May 5, 2003; a brother, Henry Buyert and two sisters: Gertie Buyert Clark and Henrietta Wallace.
