Gail went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Ottumwa Hospice. She was seventy three years, two months and twenty eight day of age. |
Gail Luetta McKee, daughter of Everett Owen and Rachel Corene Dickerson Silvers, was born September 25, 1935 in Rochester, Iowa (a small village in Mahaska County).
She was a 1953 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She married Clarence McKee May 26, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Gail worked at May’s Drug, the Continental Overall Factory and did house cleaning prior to serving as bookkeeper and sales assistant at her and Clarence’s store, McKee’s Coins. Gail was an Avon salesperson for over 30 years and was a member of the Avon President’s Club. She was a past president of the Iowa Numismatic Association, past secretary/treasurer of Southern Iowa Coin Club, and past treasurer of Ottumwa Coin Club. She enjoyed collecting Canadian Coins, crocheting, knitting and baking. Gail and Clarence raised three children and Gail was a past leader of cub scouts and girl scouts, she also enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. Gail was a member of the Good News Chapel and the Poweshiek and Mahaska County Genealogical Societies.

Gail’s family includes her husband, Clarence of Oskaloosa; sons and daughters-in-law: Owen and Janine McKee and Randy and Michelle (Cooper) McKee, both of Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Robert Hamling of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren: Shelly (Chad) Spaur, Heather McKee, Tamara Weltch, Alyssa Weltch, Kevin (Bobbi Jo) McKee; Rachel McKee; Fonda (Branden)Travis; Melissa Whitten (Kasey Van Wyk); Brandon Whitten (Amber Hamm); eight great grandchildren; her mother, Rachel Silvers of Oskaloosa; a sister, Joyce (Wayne) McMullen of Oskaloosa; brothers: Jimmy (Linda) Silvers of Rose Hill and Ronnie Silvers of Oskaloosa and many nieces and nephews. |
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Everett Silvers; a granddaughter, Latricia Michelle Whitten and a great grandson, Cole William Spaur. |
Memorials may be made to the Ottumwa Hospice House. |
