Dolores passed away Tuesday evening at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 73 years and 29 days. |
Dolores Earlene Kindley, daughter of Archie Donald and Velda Opal Atwood Childers, was born November 17, 1935 in Delta, Iowa. She was a 1953 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She began working for the Department of Human Services in Oskaloosa following her education. She married Riley Eugene “Gene” Kindley August 12, 1956 at the First Christian Church. In 1957 Gene entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. Dolores moved to Washington to be with Gene and for the two years she was there she worked in the office at Boeing Aircraft. After Gene’s discharge, they returned to Oskaloosa, where she resumed her career at the D.H.S. Dolores retired from the D.H.S. as an Income Maintenance Supervisor after over 30 years of service in June of 1997. Dolores was a member of the First Christian Church all of her life, she was active in Lydia Circle, Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class and C.W.F. December 7, 2008, she was honored by the church with the designation of Elder Emeritus. Dolores was a very willing volunteer for many organizations including, Habitat for Humanity. She was the family historian and she enjoyed crafts, her collections and the time spent with her family.

Her family includes her husband of over 52 years, Gene Kindley of Oskaloosa; sons and daughters-in-law: Mickey & Debbie Kindley of Madison, WI; Bruce and Vivian Clifton-Kindley of Fredericksburg, VA and Michael and Kelli Kindley of Oskaloosa; grandchildren: Janet Kindley of River Falls, WI; Christopher Kindley of Madison, WI; and Tyler, Brett and Ashley Kindley of Oskaloosa; three brothers-in-law and their wives: Fred and Vicky Kindley of Tracy; Richard and Dorothy Kindley of Knoxville and Lyle and Susie Kindley also of Knoxville; five sisters-in-law and their husbands: Sue and Dean Sims of Knoxville, Brenda & Tom Wilson of Melcher-Dallas, Barbara and Bob Neal of Des Moines, Bonnie and Raymond Blewitt of Jet, OK and Phyllis Childers Perdue and her husband Charlie of Pleasant Hill and Oskaloosa, and many nieces and nephews. |
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Childers.
