| Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning November 01, 2008 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. |
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with military honors by the Harry L. Anderson Post #34 of the American Legion, the VFW Post #2237 and DAV Post #21. |
Burdett passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 8 days. |
Burdett Williams, son of William D. and Ruth A. Harris Williams, was born February 20, 1937 in Oskaloosa. He was a graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He began his military career while in high school, entering the Army National Guard on September 14, 1953. He went on to serve five terms in the Air Force for a total of more than 21 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant on July 1, 1975. He served on many tours in foreign countries while serving with the Tactical Air Command and Strategic Air Command. He received many awards and decorations for exemplary service. He also retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on October 4, 1995 as Chief, Contact Management Branch, Ft. Richardson, AK. He married Leona Golden at Lancaster, MO on January 18, 2000. They made their home in Oskaloosa where he was a member of the V.F. W., and enjoyed traveling, woodworking and yardwork.

His family includes his wife, Leona Williams of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Vikie K. Silveira of Ceres, CA; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Williams of Stockton, CA; ten stepdaughters: Sandy, Janet, Kelly, Robin, Teresa, Misty, Marcy, Garby, Benie, and Artie; a stepson, Sharm; twenty eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. |
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, W.D. and Fern Williams; his mother, Ruth Williams and a son, Burdette D. Williams. |
