Visitation: Will begin at 10:00 A.M., Monday morning, May 05, 2008 at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; with the family present from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. to greet visitors on Monday evening.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Tuesday morning, May 06, 2008 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Don Job officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery

Erma passed away Friday evening at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 28 days.

Erma Ilene Sparks, daughter of Joseph Chambers and Sarah Reese Chambers, was born March 5, 1919 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She attended and graduated eighth grade from Givin schools. On February 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Harold “Dutch” Sparks, and has resided the past 51 years in Oskaloosa. She was employed at the Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa for 37 years, and she enjoyed being a housewife and homemaker following her retirement. She was a charter member of the Givin Quilting Club and enjoyed many hours spent at this activity. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, reading, working crossword puzzles, and the time spent with family and her numerous friends.

Her family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Dixie Baker of Ridge Manor, Florida and a daughter, and son-in-law, Sheryl and Jack Morgan of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Paul Sparks of Champaign, Illinois and a sister-in-law, Cleta Baker of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold “Dutch” Sparks; a daughter, Sharon Simmers; four brothers: Joseph, Irwin, Ivor, and Reese Chambers; and two sisters: Ruth Covey and Laura Chambers.

Memorials may be made to the future Mahaska Hospice House or to the American Cancer Society.
