Gary LeRoy Arnold, son of Harry A. and Hattie Ufāma Tapper Arnold was born February 4, 1939 in Webster City, Iowa. He was a 1957 graduate of Kamrar High School. He married Josephine “Josie” Mellinger June 5, 1960 in Webster City. They made their home in rural Kamrar, where Gary farmed from 1960 to 1980. In addition to farming, Gary also worked at the Kamrar Elevator, the Consolidated Co-op in Gowrie, IBP in Storm Lake and the Manson Co-op. Josie passed away September 15, 1992. He married Rebecca “Becke” Knox Cutler October 1, 1994 in Colo, IA. In that year they moved to Oskaloosa where they purchased the Red Carpet Inn and have operated it until the present. Gary was a “man of the land”, he loved watching his plants in the garden and in the fields grow from seed to harvest, and he even enjoyed the canning process. He also enjoyed raising pigs and will be remembered for just taking a fist full of soil and savoring its aroma. Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, bowling and was a loyal Hawkeye Fan, cheering on his team. He was a member of the Lions Club in Kamrar, the Moose Lodge in Webster City, and the Elks Lodge in Oskaloosa; he was also a lifetime member of Pheasants Forever. He served on the Kamrar Co-op Telephone Board and the United Co-op Board.
